Winner - Elizabeth Gentry

Elizabeth Gentry serves as the Metric Coordinator with the National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST) Weights and Measures Division (WMD), Laws and Metric Group, Metric Program where she provides information and assistance to federal, state and local government, business, industry, educational institutions, and the public concerning the metric system (International System of Units, SI) and identifies opportunities for increasing the understanding and use of the SI measurement system in trade and commerce.  Prior to NIST, Ms. Gentry served for six years as a Metrologist and later Quality Manager at the Oklahoma Department of Agriculture, Food and Forestry, Bureau of Standards.  
Additional responsibilities at NIST include ensuring management system compliance to ISO/IEC 17025 and NIST HB 143 by 55 State and county standard calibration laboratories and serving as the NIST WMD Proficiency Testing Program Quality Manager.  She is co-editor of NIST SP 1038, “The International System of Units (SI)-Conversion Factors for General Use.” 
Ms. Gentry actively participates on several NCSL International committees (Chair 164 Education Liaison and Outreach, 162 Financial Resources, 163 Workplace and Professional Development, and 134 Legal Metrology) and the IEEE Standards Coordinating Committee 14 (Quantities, Units and Letter Symbols).  
Ms. Gentry and the 164 Education Liaison and Outreach committee coordinate Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics (STEM) education outreach in a grassroots movement known as “Metrology Ambassadorship” to develop increased awareness of measurement science principles, Metrology careers, and strategies to increase new Metrologists entering the workforce.
